Dry Hair, Coarse Hair, or Both?

How do you know if you have coarse hair? Coarse hair can be identified by a thick hair shaft. It has the widest and largest circumference out of all the other hair types because unlike thin or medium hair it contains all three layers of the hair shaft: cortex, cuticle, and medulla. One way to figure out if you have coarse hair is by comparing the thickness of one strand of hair to a strand of sewing thread: if it’s thicker than the thread, you’ve got coarse hair. The concerns most guys with coarse hair have include dryness, frizz, and stubbornness. That’s because since coarse hair includes all three layers of the hair shaft, moisture has a longer way to go to penetrate the hair. Thus, if you don’t use the right product to take care of coarse hair, it may result in a rough texture and damaged, dull looking hair.

To combat this, we recommend OGX’s Extra Strength Argan Oil of Morocco Penetrating Hair Oil Treatment. Apply this to damp hair right out of the shower. While its thick viscosity feels like olive oil, hair soaks it right up without leaving any residue on your hands. Formulated with an extra-hydrating blend of water-based silk proteins and cold-pressed Moroccan Argan oil, we found it went to work in a matter of days, reviving dry, frizzy, and dull hair to back to looking and feeling smooth, shiny, and healthy. We also noticed a difference in strength and elasticity which is great if you style your hair every day. While it does claim to have a “citrus-fresh, floral-green & woody,” it was faint when we applied it and all but disappeared when dry making it great for guys who are sensitive to smells or don’t want it interfering with their cologne. We have yet to find a product that mixes affordability with efficacy like OGX.
