Is This the New Cure for Dry Winter Skin?

Burt’s Bees. It’s a beloved, wholesome American brand, like something you’d find at a small shop during your weekend stay at an AirBnB in New England. We love their lip balms which heal our severly chapped lips overnight (we’re talking hurts to smile). And if you only know them for this, then you should know that they have expanded into every product under the sun. As it’s winter, our skin is more prone to drying out, so when we came across their Natural Mama Bee Nourishing Body Oil, we decided to give it a go: Could it be more effective than lotion?

Burt’s has always been great at scent which is admirable for a product at its price point and for something that can be found at your local Target or Walmart. This is no different: upon opening it, the oil smells like you’ve just grated lemon rind. The oil is definitely thick, as if you’re slathering your body in olive oil from your kitchen, so if you’re looking for something that is going to dry fast, this is not the product for you (in fact, it doesn’t really dry so much as linger…).

Did it moisturize? Yes. But we probably wouldn’t recommend it for daytime use – while it won’t leave you with a bodybuilder-like sheen, the product is super greasy which is problematic for exposed skin (nobody wants to be sticking to things). We tried it at night, but as we laid in bed, our legs slowly slid over each other like sausages in a greased pan. Sorry for that visual. We even tried applying it OVER our lotion to see if that helped retain moisture, something we do not recommend as it made us even greasier.

Its moisturizing properties weren’t any better than an intense repairing lotion like Curel or Gold Bond, so we’d say save your money and buy one of those – it’s a pass for us.
