A Mint Julep for Your Underarms

The search for an effective natural deodorant is a favorite pastime in our office. It’s the holy grail. Because while we love our Old Spice deodorant (and have yet to find anything to dethrone it), we’re always down to try new things. Launched in 2015,

Native has two advantages over Schmidt’s (another popular natural deodorant): it went on smooth because they use caprylic/capric triglyceride, an oil made from coconuts, and we felt dry rather than sticky due to the t

apioca starch e

xtracted from the cassava plant.

While it certainly held its own after a day complete with a work out, we weren’t left with the vibrant scent that Old Spice produces even after a long day and no one wants to tread lightly for fear of their deodorant wearing off, let alone go about their day being self-conscious. Not to sound like a commercial, but you want to feel confident that your deodorant is going to stand up and be long lasting and Native left us nervous. Maybe their body washes are better?

What it does right is its array of scents. Also a big deal? They have a more sustainable option: you can switch from Native classic to Native Plastic Free. Native Plastic Free packaging is made from paperboard and ships in a 100% recycled paper mailer.

Switching can help reduce plastic waste by up to 169 tons each year.

What’s more, they’re a member of 1% for the Planet and will donate 1% of Plastic Free sales to fighting plastic pollution. We applaud this effort, and hope they can make the rest of their products plastic free and that more companies will follow their lead.

As for the deodorant: g

uys, stick with the Old Spice. It’s a pass for us.
