A Mask for Dudes, But Is It a Dud?

Founded in 2019 by Samantha Bergmann and Christopher Carl, HeTime is a face mask designed with men in mind. Sure men might have 25% thicker skin than women, but ultimately it seems that its selling point is that it’s shaped to fit men’s bigger faces and doesn’t overlap with their facial hair (in theory). HeTime is made to be visually appealing on social media - the packaging and its site is absolutely gorgeous and when you put it on, the mask is outlined in a thick Tiffany blue line (butter yellow if you have the anti-aging mask) making you want to to take a photo of yourself and share it. We tried their hydrating sheet mask which is meant to reduce the appearance of blemishes and redness while brightening skin. When we took it out of its packaging, we noticed (aside from the pleasant cedarwood, almost rosy smell) that the mask was quite wide. However its biggest design flaw is that it didn’t cover around the edge of our jaw or around our mouths, giving us about only 85% coverage. This desire to cater to men’s facial hair is good in theory, but like Bro Mask doesn’t pan out too well - not every guy has facial hair so this shouldn’t be the default.

We were also surprised by the lack of serum in it - while Bro Mask was too slimy, this just felt like we laid a wet wipe from KFC on our face. Ingredients include moringa leaf extract that has vitamin A, C, and E to help renew skin cells and enhance collagen; cedarwood oil whose concentrated antioxidants help reduce breakouts and calm irritation; and baobab tree oil which has all three omega fatty acids and vitamins A, C, D, E, and K to reverse skin damage, improve elasticity, and seal in moisture. Sure we felt like our skin was a bit smoother, but it’s a little nuts to charge $8.00/mask since it doesn’t provide full coverage or a lot of serum. We say pass on this.
