Is This 2-in-1 Cleanser/Mask Good At Multitasking?

It’s a cliche now to claim that products are made for busy lives - when, during the past half century, has this not been a part of our culture? Dual products have also had a bad reputation in general thanks in large part to shampoo/conditioners or the all-in-one shampoo/conditioner/body wash. We were intrigued though by the potential of Port Products’ Double Down Face Cleanser & Exfoliating Mask, a two-in-one detoxifying clay AHA/BHA cleanser and facial mask combo: this was the first cleanser that could also be used as a mask that we had come across. In 2010, brother-and-sister team Matt and Madison Ruggieri launched The Motley with goal of connecting men with great grooming products that they might not find elsewhere. Their nagging feeling that there were some things lacking in the options available to guys as well as their collection all of the emails, chats, and reviews they had received from guys regarding the products on the market led them to create their own line of self-care goods, Port Products. This one in particular is gentle enough to be used as a daily cleanser or can be left on for 10 minutes to be used as a mask. With both kaolin clay and exfoliating acids to deeply clean pores and remove dead skin without stripping the skin of moisture, it also contains ground walnut shell and exfoliating lactic and salicylic acids to slough off dead skin, while barley seed extract soothes and repairs the skin; spearmint and lavender lightly scents your face even after pat yourself dry. Because it needs to act as both a cleanser and a mask, this is understandably on the watery side for a clay-based product but nonetheless did its job in both scenarios: our skin was a blank canvas after it effectively took off the day’s oil and grime. We liked that we could feel the acids tingling on our face but that it didn’t leave us red, irritated, or peeling. The walnut shell concentration was about half of what you’d find in St. Ives’ famous apricot scrub, so we’re not sure how effective the shell bits are here in acting as a manual agent to remove dead skin. Where we also think St. Ives has it beat? The smell. This guy reminded us of a Mrs. Meyers hand soap. We could definitely see this as a great gift for someone going off to college who truly may be pressed for time or need to conserve space in his shower caddy, or for your travel bag’s dopp kit, but Cetaphil and St. Ives would do just fine given the $28 price tag.
